Application of Amniotic Membrane Allografts in Advanced Venous Leg Ulcer: A Case Study and Literature Review

Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) is a lifelong, moribund and debilitating disease process with tremendous personal financial costs. At its core, CVI involves blood pooling in the lower extremities secondary to inadequate venous return, resulting hypertension incompetence of one-way valves extremity veins. As circulation slows, metabolic demands cells increase, leading stasis dermatitis, infection, cellular death, ulceration. This case study aims report efficacy Dehydrated Amniotic Membrane Allograft (DAMA) applications chronic right lateral ankle ulcer from insufficiency. The patient this received DAMA weekly for six weeks. Upon examination at initial application, wound was wet macerated due drainage significant hemosiderosis lipodermatosclerosis consistent Clinical Severity Score (VCSS) 2. inspection final visit, closed, VCSS 0. demonstrates that application has potential act as an effective barrier cover accelerate closure time. Future non randomized controlled trials may further establish standardized protocols ulceration, help create treatment algorithms predict endpoints, encourage innovation healing
